iPhone and iPad Developer's meetup

Details

Wow, what a party! Thanks everyone for coming to Bistro 412 for our April party and special thanks to everyone who gave app demos and to appbackr and apigee for sponsoring our iPad giveaway! (and congratulations Ronald!)

For our May meetup we'll be back at the TIPS annex for a joint meetup with David Cao's "iPhone and iPad Business meetup". David is working to get some special content on iPhone OS 4.0 and I've been lining up some presentations on some interesting APIs and related projects for developers. Tentatively our schedule includes:

  • Lars Nielsen of Skyhook Wireless, on a new "Local Favs" API that Skyhook is offering to to mobile app developers
  • appbackr, winner of this year's PayPal Developer Challenge, on an innovative "marketplace" they have built to finance app development.
  • OpenFeint will be sending someone for a brief discussion of Aurora Feint on the iPad (bring your questions).

And via David, we're looking forward to discussing OS 4.0 with Nick Black and Alex Miyamura:

Nick Black, OS 4.0 – a new mapping experience for your users
Find out the best way to implement maps in your 4.0 apps – how you can make best use of background GPS tracking and other new features to create compelling user experiences.

Nick co-founded CloudMade in 2007 after spending a year running a London based Ruby on Rails development shop with CloudMade co-founder Steve. Nick has a diverse background, born in the exotic Isle of Man, he moved to London in 2000 to study Archaeology at University College London (UCL). When he graduated in 2003, Nick worked for a research institute in Kenya, where he began to teach himself the principles of land surveying and geographic information systems. After working for various archaeology companies and universities in the UK, Ireland and South Africa, he enrolled in a Masters course in Geographic Information Science back at UCL in 2005. Disappointed by the complexity, clunkiness and cost of the desktop GIS taught to graduate students and shocked by the cost of geodata in the UK, Nick began to investigate the world of open source hacking, Linux and of course OpenStreetMap.

He’s spoken at many high-level conferences including:
