iUX Night

iUX Night

Details

In October we're focusing on iOS User Experience with a couple of presentations from UX experts.

preliminary details:

Suzanne Ginsburg: Designing the iPhone User Experience

If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out Suzanne Ginsburg's new book, Designing the iPhone User Experience: A User-Centered Approach to Sketching and Prototyping iPhone Apps. Suzanne will be presenting key things she learned as she created this book, and will be focusing on upfront user research: things to do before we begin coding our apps.

Greg Nudelman: Designing a Resourceful Mobile Search Experience

Long viewed as Web search's poor sister, Mobile search presents a compelling story in its own right, as a distinct and separate application, with it's own experience considerations and tremendous opportunities. To illuminate the topic of creating an resourceful and intuitive mobile search experience, and creating customer delight, Greg will present the best material from his monthly UXMatters column, Search Matters and his book, "Design Patterns for Ecommerce Search: Design Secrets and Successful Strategies for Happy Customers" (upcoming from Wiley in Spring 2011).

Some of the topics include:

  • Augmented reality, like pulling in coupons from local merchants based on your GPS location
  • Local personal ecommerce & product bar-code scanners
  • Re-engaging the customer with the content after the constant interruptions inevitable in mobile
  • The UX differences between smart phones and tablet devices (iPad)
  • Design patterns for faceted search in mobile and iPad
  • Teasers, pop overs and watermark search design patterns
  • Mobile search Information Architecture patterns
  • The best ways to approach zero search results conditions

This is a straight-forward, practical talk about mobile search UI design, so there will be lots of before-and-after picture slides (and very few bullet points).
