Fun, Games, and Java

Details

Our October meetup will be at Storm8 and will feature talks on games, gamification, and a Google project that converts Java to Objective-C.

First up will be Justin Ng, engineering manager at Storm8, who will talk about Storm8's approach to game design and development and hopefully share some secrets behind Storm8's big successes (http://storm8.com/games) in the App Store.

Next we'll have Neil Smith of TeamPlay talking about ways that we can add game dynamics to all kinds of apps. From Neil:

TeamPlay is a platform for adding team dynamics to games and gamifying other kinds of apps. We'll briefly introduce the motivation for considering a platform like TeamPlay, consider which use cases make sense and talk a little about the design considerations required to ensure balance once you start introducing team dynamics.

For more follow @teamplaysdk (http://twitter.com/teamplaysdk) on Twitter.

Finally, we have a special treat from Google: Tom Ball, lead engineer for J2ObjC, will tell us about this free source code translator and runtime that converts non-UI Java code to Objective-C for iOS. How and why, we're eager to know, and if you can't wait until the meetup, get it at https://code.google.com/p/j2objc .

Hi! I had some drawings from this meetup that i posted on my blog.

I was skeptical of the java to obj-c idea but really warmed up tot he speaker. he's so smart! great to see that he emphasized that the project avoided anything to do with porting universal UI.

thanks to storm8 for hosting!

I'm with appnique, a new startup that's doing SEO for the appstores. Our analysis tools make it easier for you to get found via organic search in iTunes and Google Play. We're getting close to launch, and are in closed beta now. I'm happy to discuss what we're doing.

I think I've found a huge problem in the conversion funnel of mobile apps, and I'm interested in gathering perspectives on the problem and feedback on a solution I'm working on. If you're interested, shoot me an email at ssebro at stanford dot edu, and we'll do coffee.

I developed a couple of simple apps to learn iOS (search for Thinkers Ink in the iStore) and am currently designing a science game which I plan to develop in both the iOS and Android platforms. So I'm working on improving my iOS skills, learning Java, and learning about gamification.

Hi iOS Developers,

I moved up to Silicon Valley from San Diego just a few weeks ago, and I am assembling all the pieces to start my next company. (My third, in fact.) I'm developing an app, but alas, my experience is with executive management and marketing. I need on of you!

I am looking for a co-founder, and as cheesy and non-organic as this is, I am looking everywhere, including posting on discussion boards on meetup. But, it may just work!

My expertise lies within marketing, management, and operations. I need someone with a technical mind to compliment my skill-set.

If you have the time, drive, and skills to make an exceptional cofounder, let's talk. Please message me via Meetup or Skype (greg.muender).

Greetings everyone! My name is David and I am a physician who has created the specifications for an iPad application for use by doctors in the hospital setting. I am developing the application with the input of Stanford University Hospital, where the application will first be tested. As I am not a developer by training, I am looking for a technical co-founder who may be interested in partaking in a medical venture. Thanks and see you at the Meetup!
