It was insightful. It was not just boosterism for his book. It actually gave useful insights into what Apple's culture is and why it has been so successful despite defying "conventional wisdom".

Thanks Adam. Nice presentation.
I feel that iphone would lose more market share by Android, and would drugged into the price competition.
I recommend Apple to create new accessory phone market as the iPad companion device. Why we need to carry both iphone & iPad together?
Too many duplicated features, and iphone become a just a phone function device for iPad user. So, I recommend Apple to create new accessory feature phone.
Addition to the new device, I recommend Apple to acquire LVMH To fill out the gap of Steve Jobs, and sell new devices through WW DutyFree shops through TOP watch brands with expensive price.
We can learn a lot from the history of watch industry. That is how Apple's stock would goes up again, and may reach to One trillion dollar company instead of going down with 1~2 hundreds billion dollar company. How do you think?
I have unique HMI solutions for Apple for their next AppleTV remote controller. Best,

Great Meetup!

Very interesting presentation -- I like the focus on the later Apple, a period much less covered in Valley folklore than the early days.

Tim, is Apple going to buy Yahoo? Sounds like a great, unfounded rumor. Guess they could call the merged companies Yapplhoo!

Have you been following Renaissance? We've been announcing new speakers and today posted a press release. http://renaissance.io/pressreleases/renaissance_in_san_francisco
Two of our newest speakers are Louie Mantia and Dan Scheinman. You might know Louie as the designer of Tap Tap Revenge, or Twitterrific for iPad, or GarageBand for iPad, or iTunes 10, or Square Wallet... do you get the idea, here? I met Dan through a mutual friend after this story was published about him in the Mercury News: http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_22146569/moneyball-valley-style-investor-uses-age-bias-advantage
I'm posting here because tonight I'll announce that until midnight tomorrow night (Tuesday 12/18), the "svios" discount code is good for 20% off Renaissance registration.
Anyone who is signed up before tonight's meetup will get a guaranteed free copy of Adam's book "Inside Apple". Must be present to win. :)

When will Apple come out of the dark ages regarding developer
support?
Some low-lights:
Its impossible for a developer to search the bug database to find out if a bug with the SDK or tools has already been reported or if there is a know workaround for said bug.
It's clear that Apple's approach of keeping their people compartmentized overflows into the SDK as there are lots of inconsistencies in the various APIs and builtin view controllers - just try to add a photo to an SMS message in your app (you can't, but the user can if they use iMessage directly). That's just one example.

At every Apple keynote it seems, we're told about how many credit cards iTunes has on file, but it never leads anywhere. Why has Apple shied away from stepping into payments industry with full force? Is Apple working on anything interesting (other than Passbook) in this domain?
Also, when's the Apple TV set coming out, and what will it look like?

Whatever happened to Steve Job's promise of an open FaceTime standard?

Adam Lashinksy is as close an Apple-watcher as they come.

I'm expecting that we'll have lots of time for questions, so as a warmup, please post any questions that you have for Adam here. Like these:
- What will be Scott Forstall's next project?
- What's the plan for Passbook?
- When will Apple buy Nest? Tesla? Yahoo?
Your turn.
