WWDC Afterparty with Michael Mace. The 4 Mobile Traps: How many have caught you?

Details

Join us on Monday June 17 in Palo Alto for our annual Monday-after-WWDC afterparty. Like last year, a lot of us didn't get WWDC tickets, so we'll be eager for a chance to pick the brains of those who did.

We're expecting the typical amazing Northern California June weather, so we'll be meeting outside on the patio of AOL's offices in Palo Alto. We'll have food trucks to cater and presentations from fantastic sponsors, and Mike Mace will be sharing a short presentation that just might save your apps.

Apigee

Apigee is the leading API platform for enterprises and developers. Come here about Apigee's great offerings for mobile app developers, including data management, user and social features, analytics, and a push notification gateway. Also, don't forget to get the WWDC Party List (http://www.wwdcpartylist.com) app, which is powered by an API running on Apigee's App Services Platform (http://apigee.com/about/api-best-practices/apigee-api-platform-app-services).

AdMob

At Google I/O, Google announced a new version of AdMob (http://googlemobileads.blogspot.com/2013/05/introducing-new-admob-improved-tools-to.html) that includes many new features to help small mobile app developers grow their business: Conversion Optimizer for smarter app promotion, improved ad filters for selecting the ads that run in your app, improved AdMob Mediation to allow developers to mix ads from different networks, support for payments in local currencies, and a multi-dimensional reporting interface.

ShowKit

If you've considered adding audio/video conferencing to your mobile app, you know it's really really complicated... enter ShowKit (http://showkit.com). ShowKit's SDK makes it really really easy for developers to drop the following features into their apps: audio/video conferencing, screen sharing, and remote gesture control. (Remote gesture control? See what we mean: http://vimeo.com/65406591 )

Check out the 720p (at 30FPS) audio/video quality using promo code: SViOSMeetup @ showkit.com, and come say hello to us on June 17th!

Quantcast

Quantcast is a digital advertising company specialized in audience measurement and real-time advertising. 100 million+ web destinations use Quantcast today. With Quantcast Measure for Apps, iOS and Android apps can connect to Quantcast's powerful analytics.

The Four Mobile Traps

with Michael Mace

If you've just started designing mobile apps, you're almost certainly doing it wrong.

But there's good news: Michael Mace has studied thousands of mobile usability tests and will be at our Afterparty to tell us about the four biggest traps that he found and how we can avoid them. Ironically, they often seem like logical moves, so developers often don't see when we're falling into them. How many are you making?

Michael Mace (http://www.mikemace.com) is a product planning and marketing expert who's worked at Apple, Silicon Graphics, Softbook, and Palm. Since then he's been consulting and working on startup projects, and in May of 2008, Mike spoke at our second meetup ever (https://www.meetup.com/sviphone/events/7766207). How much has changed in five years?

Food service will be provided by Speedy Panini (http://www.speedypanini.com), Twisted Chill (https://www.facebook.com/twistedchilltruck), and The Bartender Company (http://www.bartendercompany.com).

Come by Caltrain! We'll be a short walk from the California Avenue Caltrain station.
