Renaissance Forum: iOS 7 Design Confidential

Details

Welcome the New World: It's flatter than it used to be.

Chia Hwu and Evan Kirchhoff will take us on a tour of iOS 7's new design theory and practice. Down with skeuomorphism and gradients, up with animations, transparency, and parallax. From 7 to 8pm, Chia and Evan will share tips for designing apps that feel at home in iOS 7. We'll also be looking for ways to smooth the transition forward without breaking our iOS 6 apps.

We'll follow this with an extended show-and-tell where we invite participants to share their own app designs and how they are updating them for iOS 7.

Participation is free for Renaissance IO (http://renaissance.io) members, who also receive access to videos from the 2013 Renaissance Conference. For more information about Renaissance IO membership, visit http://renaissance.io/membership.

Participation is also free for early ticket buyers for Renaissance 2014 (http://renaissance2014.eventbrite.com), coming January 29-31, 2014 at UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center. Early registrations for Renaissance 2014 are on sale now at http://renaissance2014.eventbrite.com.

Free registrations for Renaissance IO members and early ticket buyers are available on Eventbrite (http://ios7confidential.eventbrite.com).

Anyone else is welcome to attend (space permitting) for a registration fee that will help cover early costs associated with Renaissance 2014. But please note: All attendees must be registered members of Apple's iOS developer program. To join, visit https://developer.apple.com/register/index.action.

Chia Hwu is CEO of Qubop, a mobile app consulting company. Her background spans product design, marketing, and both hard sciences and the visual arts. Before Qubop, she was Director of Marketing at Ansca Mobile, where she was responsible for leading brand strategy, public relations, and product marketing.

Chia previously worked at 23andMe, where she built the company's user communities, using a network of enthusiastic users to successfully launch a new product. She is a coauthor of Teach Yourself the Twitter API in 24 Hours (Sams) and an expert at the integration of game mechanics and social features into apps.

Evan Kirchhoff is the CTO of Qubop Inc. and has developed for multiple mobile platforms since 2002 and for the web for over a decade. Prior to Qubop, Evan was employee #1 at Ansca Mobile and Lead Architect on their cross-platform toolkit for iOS and Android, where he designed and implemented key product features including the core game physics API.

Evan previously worked for Adobe as a Senior Developer on the Verizon Wireless FlashCast project. In addition, Evan was the cofounder of Comrade Software, a mobile and web production company that created games for the carrier decks of both Verizon Wireless and Softbank Japan.

Good Meetup and useful info presented with interesting perspectives on UI design. A little disappointed that there weren't as much coding tips and tricks or lessons learned.

Great topic. As a developer I really love the focus on design. We just don't get enough of that in our day to day. We are all really interested in the new iOS 7 but we dont all have the resources to play with it. Thanks to qubop for sharing. Great presentation!

Excellent talk by both Evan and Chia! Also the demos afterwards were really interesting and if we can do more design critiques like that in the future that would be wonderful. Btw, I couldn't access this link that was shown in the slide deck..anyone else having trouble with it? http://www.qudop.com/ios7.pdf

Interested in working on iOS7 apps? We're hiring at Yahoo! I'm the director of software development for one of the mobile teams and we're looking for iOS developers. Send your resume to Mike Chrabaszcz (mchrab@yahoo-inc.com). I don't think I'll make this meetup; still on the waiting list.

Hey guys.. I have already accepted the invitation earlier and only to find out that I can't attend. Kinda bum about it. Hope to see whether there's some kind of highlight or summary. If anyone in the waiting list, can take my place, please do so.

Am a Renaissance.io member and an Instagator ticket holder to Renaissance.io 2014, but have no problem paying the fee - which I have already done. Should be an interesting gathering!
