"It's just a reader, how hard can it be?" + "E-Pub Crawl" at NOOK

Details

You may have read recent stories about rumored changes at NOOK. But you may not have heard that it's full speed ahead for iOS developers (is that news anymore?)

On March 10, we'll be at the NOOK Media offices in Palo Alto to see what's new in education and digital publishing, particularly on iOS. We'll get some insight into the creation of the NOOK app on iOS and hear a tech talk on EPUB from a member of the NOOK team.

Topic: It’s just a reader, how hard can it be?

Bio: Chris Pribe is the Lead iOS Engineer for the NOOK for iOS App. He has worked on the iOS team since the 3.0 release, which was a complete rebuild of the app, and has worked on all aspects of the app. He has also developed his own iOS apps.

Prior to NOOK, Chris spent 12 years at Mercedes-Benz R&D. He also developed software at his own company and at a handwriting and print recognition start-up. Chris has a Ph.D. In Cognitive and Neural Systemsfrom Boston University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Cognitive Science) from UCSD.

Topic: E-Pub Crawl: Getting down and dirty with EPUB 3

Bio: Brian Becker is a Senior iOS Engineer on the Nook Digital Education team. He has been professionally developing software since 2000 on a wide variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and a giant laser embedded in a 747. His last 7 years have been spent developing E-publishing applications at Nook, Plastic Logic, and Adobe.

Here are more details from NOOK:

We have also established partnerships with the leading technology company, Microsoft, and leading higher education publisher, Pearson.

With large domestic footprints in both New York and our beautiful, new, state-of-the-art campus in the historic foothills of Palo Alto, CA, we have a unique culture, enjoying the open and entrepreneurial feel of a start-up.

Thanks to the Nook team and Tim Burks! Was an interesting inside look at e-reader development for mobile. It's just a reader, how hard can it be? Pretty complicated I've learned! :)
