WWDC Afterparty at Aol, sponsored by Nest and UserTesting

Details

Join us on Monday June 16 on the Aol patio for our annual informal celebration of another WWDC. (This year's challenge will be to find someone who got a ticket!)

Thanks to sponsors UserTesting and Nest, we'll have food from Speedy Panini (http://www.speedypanini.com) and a presentation inside from Nest.

If you've been following WWDC, you probably saw that Apple announced HomeKit , a new framework for "communicating with and controlling connected devices in a user’s home" (https://developer.apple.com/homekit/) and that soon afterwards, Honeywell announced a HomeKit-compatible thermostat ( http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-10/thermostat-war-heats-up-as-honeywell-aims-at-google.html ).

Is Nest sitting still? Find out Monday, and whether or not you were at WWDC this year, tell us your favorite announcement in the comments below.

The Mystery around all the things that Nest couldn't say has rolled out fairly quickly. From Dropcam to the developer program, it's finally live… https://developer.nest.com/ They have even included a warn your neighbor smoke alarm ifttt script example. A suggestion from the meetup, they are moving quickly...

It was great meeting some of you last night. If anyone's looking to get a free "peek" into their app's usability check out http://peek.usertesting.com

If you're app is unreleased, contact me. I'd be happy to set you up.

Gonna be honest guys - this is the furthest thing from an "afterparty" I've ever been to. Thoroughly disappointing - just wish the intent and description of this meetup was made clearer.

I'm surprised by these comments. I went expecting a session on tech, and that's just what it was. Plus a free good sandwich. Thanks for arranging, Tim, I'd rather you keep this up.

Perhaps everyone has different expectations. It was useful for me :)

I agree this event didn't seem like a WWDC afterparty. Next year we can all do better. To elaborate more: As a tech talk I was also disappointed with Nest. They came across as smug and unwilling to discuss specifics. I understand that they are trying to keep new products secret, but they could have talked more about how their team works together and what technologies they use. I attended an event at Facebook where Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest mobile teams all were very open with how they build apps. Nest did not provide much useful information.

Thanks, this all is fair (unless you were looking for a frat party or night school :) ). Where money is involved, there will be lawyers, but I have no lawyers keeping me from saying that I appreciate the Nest team's taking our questions - particularly on the heels of the HomeKit announcement, which seems like a direct shot at them by Apple. I also think that Apple's HomeKit team has a long way to go to catch up to the coherence of vision and execution that Nest has put together. We'll see.

The event itself was good. Food and sponsors are always a good thing! But I also had really no idea what to expect from the description of the event. I went to some of the party's during WWDC week and they were the kinds with music and drinks and such. I personally don't care much for music or drinking, but with "party" in the title, perhaps some of us were thinking a bit more of a social/networking event.

We just released Lithouse app in the app store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id866665066). Using just this one app, you can control Philips Hue and Belkin WeMo.

Looking forward to your feedback.

I'm looking for a developer/cofounder for a really cool app. I have a strong plan that can get 10 million people to use the app within the first year. I'd love to sit with developers, explain my plan and hopefully find my developer.

Hi, sorry about this but in the run-up to WWDC I didn't get everything together to have this on the 9th. Rescheduling for June 16 (and watch for news of a bonus meetup on June 30).
