@WePay: Great Apps from the Palo Alto App Challenge & you - sponsored by Moxtra

Details

Are you feeling inspired by July's discussion of "good apps" (https://www.meetup.com/sviphone/events/190130552/)? We're going to follow that in August with some great apps created right here.

With gracious support from Palo Alto CIO Jonathan Reichental (https://www.meetup.com/sviphone/events/26158941/), we've invited participants in the 2014 Palo Alto Apps Challenge (http://www.hackpaloalto.org) to present their projects, inspire us, and possibly meet a new team member or two. We'll be meeting at WePay's office (next to Fry's) on Portage with pizza provided by Moxtra (http://www.moxtra.com).

In addition to Jonathan Reichental (City of Palo Alto Apps Challenge) and Cynthia Typaldos (Apps Challenge entry AdoptMeApp), we'll hear about Moxtra's messaging framework and SDK, and hear several quick demos and pitches:

  • Journalist Scott Doggett with Traveling Acts of Kindness, a non-profit project to encourage user participation in humanitarian and environmental causes.

  • Jack Rogers with Protest, an open-source iOS app that lets protesters communicate anonymously in crowds.

DEVELOPERS: please help us test Protest by getting the code from https://github.com/jackflips/Protest , building it and bringing it on your iPhone to the meetup Monday.

With so much to discuss, we'll start promptly at 7. Please plan to arrive at 6:30 to enjoy pizza sponsored by Moxtra.

Also FYI, AT&T is offering a free Internet of Things workshop this Thursday at UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center with identical sessions in the afternoon and evening. To register, see the description and links below.

It looks like we'll have some extra time this month. Do you have an app you'd like to demo? If so, please post it in the comments below.

I used to come religiously for the first several years, but haven't been in a while. I'm looking forward to seeing some old faces and making new acquaintances.
