Hands-On At Couchbase: Offline-First Mobile Apps and Sajj Mediterranean

Details

Bring your laptops! The Couchbase mobile engineering team is going to take us through the process of building an app that completely works online and offline, from scratch, live at our meetup. You'll go home with a working app with sync built in and some great explanations of how it all works.

The Couchbase mobile team will be there, including Wayne Carter, Chief Architect of Mobile, Zack Gramana, Sr. Product Manager and former developer of Couchbase Lite for .NET, and Jens Alfke, former Apple engineer and founding member of the Couchbase mobile team.

We'll be meeting at the Couchbase office in Mountain View.

From Couchbase:

Sync sucks. If you’ve spent any time adding offline support to your apps, you know what we're talking about. You want to spend your time delivering features, and Couchbase Mobile is here to help. Couchbase’s Wayne Carter, Chief Architect of Mobile, and Zack Gramana Senior Product Manager will show you how just how easy your life can be when you build apps using Couchbase Lite, our mobile NoSQL database, alongside our open source secure sync server called Sync Gateway.

In this talk you will learn about:

  • Replacing Core Data with Couchbase Lite
  • Reading and writing data
  • Modeling app data the NoSQL way
  • Adding sync in less than 5 minutes
  • Enabling authentication, restricting data access, and adding role based security
  • And more…

With great thanks to Couchbase, the meetup will be catered by Sajj - Mediterranean (http://www.sajjstreeteats.com). We will have a buffet with choice of chicken kebob, falafel or chicken shawarma. There will also be tzatziki, tomato & cucumber salad, hummus and other fixings to create rice bowl, pita pocket or salad.

See you there!

As I mentioned at Couchbase tonight, on February 18th there is a Meetup for those who are interested in developing iOS apps without having to code/test/debug/support the back-end business logic. See how open-source Drupal can be used through an iOS library and a RESTful interface to support your back-end needs. For details: https://www.meetup.com/DrupalGroup/events/220211228/

Hi Couchbase team, I'll have to miss this one. Will you be recording it or do you have a similar session available on video?

Ben — Couchbase has several recorded webinars covering mobile development. I don't think there's a separate page for them, but you can browse the list of all Couchbase webinars: http://www.couchbase.com/nosql-resources/webinar/recorded
