How Imgur Works with Images on iOS; Downloading, Caching, and UI Performance

Details

Note that this month we'll be meeting on a Tuesday in San Francisco!

We'll be meeting at the Imgur offices on Jackson street, and Geoff MacDonald, Senior iOS Developer, will be talking about high performance image display on iOS. From Geoff:

Remote images are used in nearly every app we write, yet we rarely think about the implications on the user experience in favor of other business requirements. Hear from Imgur about how and when we chose to download and cache images, GIFs and videos. Discussion of displaying images efficiently when under high memory, bandwidth and performance pressure. Comparison of common frameworks to achieve these tasks including SDWebImage, AFNetworking and AsyncDisplayKit.

Are you working on high performing apps and have a story to tell about that? We'll have time for demos and lightning talks - just send me a message through the group if you'd like to share something.

Thanks to Stephanie Polizzi of Imgur for hosting!

Thanks to Stephanie and Geoff for giving us a really great event last night!

Last night I mentioned a fantastic deal on a local conference that is happening this weekend.

Many of you know John Wilker. John organizes 360|iDev, the oldest and longest-running conference for iOS developers. This year's 360|iDev is August 16-19 in Denver, but John's also been planning an event that's happening this weekend in San Francisco.

360|intersect is a two day single track conference that features people that John and many others find interesting and inspiring. They work in tech, but their focus will be on many of the other things that go with technology to make it important. Check out the schedule:

http://www.360intersect.com/schedule/

John's offering us a few tickets at a huge discount - $49. That's not $49 off, that's $49 per ticket for a two-day conference.

To get this price, use the discount code "svios_50" when you register here:

There are one or two other meetups In the building tonight. Ours is on the second floor. Come in and come up the elevator that you'll find in the back left.

Where would be a good place to park?

If you don't find street parking, the Portsmouth Square garage is a couple of blocks away.
