Genevieve Primavera is a Silicon Valley based designer who designs apps and teaches hands-on design workshops. She's teaching her next workshop on Thursday, July 23 at NextSpace in Santa Cruz (http://www.dui.academy), and has agreed to give us a preview at our July meet-up. Genevieve will talk about some important considerations for good UI design and then will lead design reviews of one or two brave apps from our audience.
We'll be meeting at Skout's offices in San Francisco at 301 Howard Street. Skout describes itself as "the world's largest network for meeting new people" and Skout would like to meet a few more mobile developers. So if you're looking for a job, bring a card or resume and get connected.
I'll leave the selection of apps to Genevieve, but if you have an app that you'd like for her to review, please post it in the comments.

Does the talk start at 7pm or is there networking first?

We need to finish talks by 8:30 so we'll start close to seven. Food arrives at 6:30.

Will people on the waitlist be allowed into this meetup?

I can't promise it because our current RSVP count is over the limit, but in our seven year history, we've only had to turn people away once.

If there is still an open spot for review, my sister and I designed and built an app that we would love feedback on. It's called "FirstCare" and is used to help people understand what to do when they are not feeling well. See everyone tonight!

It's certainly a great start!
The illustrations are great!
Overall, I'd increase the top margin on all screens.
I would visually break up the "I have..." and the symptom picker so that it doesn't look like it's floating so much. Maybe it has a slight tint for a background color.
And maybe the submit button could be a little bigger — have a little more personality. (Rarely are you going to hear a designer say "make it bigger!" But this is one of those rare circumstances. Lol)
The Yes/No buttons look really nice. They could use a color, to keep up with the fun illustrations.
The last two screens look like they still need some design. You may consider putting the type on a colored background to distinguish it from the illustration a little bit, and increase the right and left margins.
Hope that was helpful. Great start, though!

Can you take a look at Smart Recorder for iOS? The app is currently available. I am looking to do a redesign or touchups to the UI. Here is the link:

Hi Ken, I took a look at your app. The UI seems to be a little crowded. I would give everything a little more negative space and also reduce the visual contrast. You are using red and green, two complementary colors. Green makes red look redder, and vice versa, combined with the ultimate contrast of black and white, it gives the illusion that the screen is even more crowded than it really is. Maybe the white background becomes a light gray, and the type becomes a little softer than black, like a #333333, or something close.
On your last screen, I would suggest replacing the switches and labels with icons (no labels). Also, I would clean up the typography treatment in that table. Here is a link with some nice examples of how type is handled. One of the first steps is increasing the line-height, and the text alignment.
Hope this helps!

I have an app I'd like to get reviewed. It's not released yet, I will bring it on my iPhone and iPad. Thanks!
