Our August meetup will be at Apteligent (https://www.apteligent.com). Formerly known as Crittercism, Apteligent provides analytics and crash reporting for some of the world's biggest apps, including this summer's pocket monster hit, Pokémon Go (https://www.apteligent.com/2016/07/scaling-catch-aka-pokemon-webscale/).

From Pokémon to Paypal: The customer experience metrics you should optimize - Robert Kwok

Statistics show that over 70% of apps will be launched only one time before being deleted. Learn best practices from Fortune 500 companies on how to optimize the app metrics that deliver a 5-star mobile experience such as app load time, crash rate, and battery drain.

Robert Kwok is the co-founder and CTO of Apteligent. Robert graduated with a full scholarship from MIT in 2005 majoring in Computer Science. While at MIT, Robert developed an interest in educational games through his work on FLOGO at the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. For his undergraduate thesis, Robert worked with Eric Klopfer at the Teacher Education Program (TEP) on mobile apps, including an augmented reality game called “Outbreak @ MIT”. Since graduation, he worked at Hewlett-Packard for three years as a User Interface software developer where he developed and shipped several database monitoring and management tools. At Apteligent, Robert was the original iOS developer, ran the engineering and product teams, and works with strategic partners.

Catching 'Em All: How We Scaled the Apteligent Cloud Platform to Support Pokémon Go - Kevan Dunsmore

Pokémon Go is a global phenomena. It pulls in over $1.6M per day on iOS alone for its creator Niantic (https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/11/pokemon-go-daily-revenue-downloads/), caused a stampede in Central Park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eloPUvcC6U), was reported by Bloomberg and other channels as being responsible for the rapid rise and subsequent plummet of Nintendo's stock price (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-07-25/nintendo-set-to-plunge-after-saying-pokemon-go-s-impact-limited), caused over 35M raised eyebrows from 70M grandparents in the US (http://www.statisticbrain.com/grandparent-statistics/) who just don't understand what a Pokémon is (or indeed why you'd want to catch even one, let alone all of them) and is actually pretty fun to play. Learn about the incredible amount of traffic generated by Pokémon Go and how the Apteligent cloud platform rose to the scaling challenge it posed to power its performance management needs.

Kevan Dunsmore is the VP of Engineering at Apteligent. Kevan graduated from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, in 1994 with an honors degree in Computer Science. Throughout his career Kevan has found success by solving interesting problems in uninteresting fields such as elevator control systems, tire pricing and tax calculation. Discovering that interesting fields can have interesting challenges too, Kevan worked in Natural Language Processing for Bay Area startup Virtuoz and later Nuance Communications after acquisition. Introduced to Mobile through his NLP endeavors, Kevan moved on to Apteligent where he oversees the Engineering group that produces the Apteligent SDK, installed in over 23,000 apps, and the AWS-hosted platform that handles over 30,000 requests per second, logging 100B app loads per month for users across 120 countries, 3 of the top 5 credit card issuers, 3 of the top 5 media companies, 3 of the top 5 retailers, and 2 of the top 3 hotel chains.

Build your App Analytics the Right Way - Curtis Liu, Amplitude

Understanding your users' behavior is the key to unlocking your apps growth, retention, and monetization. You need to be set up from day one to what to track your users' behaviors as this data is your users' directly communicating with you about your product. Thus it is critical for all app developers to have event-based analytics implemented, instrumented and architected correctly. Amplitude's Co-Founder & CTO Curtis Liu will cover how to architect your app's analytics the right way, what key behaviors to track and key pitfalls to avoid while instrumenting your application.

Space is limited! Please only RSVP "YES" if you plan to attend, and please update your RSVP if your plans change.
